Few things are more wonderful or evil than spell checkers. They can clean up your mistakes, but they can also turn a misspelled word into something more ridiculous and embarrassing. They can also cause you to miss some glaring errors. One of my prime examples, which was caught by my writing group: “He shifted from foot-to-food.” Blush. Thank goodness they caught that!
